Triathlon Training - Why Am I So Tired?

I’m feeling a bit low this evening. I just don’t know what’s wrong with me - I’m just SO tired.

OK, I am doing some training pretty much six days a week, and generally fairly early in the morning (starting before 7). There’s also that 125 miles a fortnight on the bike - but that’s nothing!

But, I’m getting my fair slice of pillow time (7-8 hrs), AND I’m getting up at a fairly regular time - give or take half an hour.  My training sessions generally aren’t that long either - mostly only 45 minutes or so.

And finally . . . I’m eating sensibly (good mix of carbs, protien and regular fluids), and taking daily measures of my weight (stable at 75-76kg) & pulse (generally stable at around the mid 50’s, but occasional dips into the 40’s), which indicate that I’m definitely NOT over-training.

So what’s wrong? Why am I just so completely exhusted?

Have your had a day off from your workout.. I mean a complete day off. That could be it. Your body is trying to tell you something.

Also not sure about your nutrition, if you’re eating enough or perhaps the timing of your foods could be off.

Takemyhand might have a point re when you’re eating and what you’re eating when.
I used to train a great deal - not as a triathlete but in another discipline and getting my diet right - the timing of it - proved to be crucial.
    Annoying, eh? ;-)
Another thought - perhaps one to be dismissed although both the British NHS and Hong Kong Police to name only two other sources from hundreds most certainly consider it valid….
Check (hopefully via a training log) if you’re influenced by the Full Moon…

    Kindest regards and best wishes,

Karl, I would tell you to rest, and watch what you’re eating and be careful not to over train… but I suspect that from your reading of my blog you’d see right through all that. ;)

Sorry you didn’t get a full break at the weekend either. But the spin class was good wasn’t it!
Step away from the peanut butter flavour kitkats……..I said, step away….

Takemyhand & Solo - thanks for your contribution - you may have a point. I’ve been reading up on fuel & when to eat. More on this later.

ZappoMan - [use Travis Bickle's voice for this:] are you goading me? Be careful - if I can get my swimming sorted, I just might come over there and give you a pasting!

Von SmallHaussen . . . . write me an article on their manufacturer, and I may just give up the peanut butter KitKats. . .

WOW. I was feeling the exact same thing last week when I was going on a mountain bike ride with a fried.. I had the strenghth in my muscles but my body just didn’t ‘have it’ ….not bonking no… this is totally different! I train consistently hard every 6 days a week sometimes non stop and after that bike ride I think I took a day off and that still didn’t do it cause when I went for a swim I still felt weak even after eating well, slepping enough…. so I took a full 2 days off of full rest and I think I fully recovered.. I think at some point the body just needs the rest. But, I’m with ya there, it’s really tough to go without real training even for a day…I get really cranky but ya just gotta do it.

Glad to know I’m not ‘patient zero’ for this! I’m pretty sure it’s over training now - looking at the stats for my HR shows quite a sustained plumet, which frankly don’t look ‘normal’.

By tomorrow I’ll have had 40 hrs of total downtime . . . so I’ll do a little pool time and see how it goes.
