I’m Back . . . and I’m BAD!

[Play Bad to The Bone by George Thorogood and The Destroyers while you read. Unless you're on Vista. In which case, it's probably best to wait for a couple of weeks for Apple to upgrade iTunes. While you're waiting, you could read Steve Jobs' Utopian essay on DRM]

Well, with my time off (all 44 hrs of it . . .), I’ve done a whole bunch of reading, and found this great article on Overtraining on SportsMed Web. The article’s a few years old, but human bodies haven’t evloved much in the last few years. So if you’re feeling constantly really tired, or :

moody, easily irritated, have altered sleep patterns, become depressed, or lose the competitive desire and enthusiasm for the sport

I’d suggest you have a serious read.

More later.

Here’s an odd couple of facts.

    1) I used to own an independent record label.
    2) I’ve worked on several DRMs while I was VP of Engineering at RealNetworks… I have several Patents Pending on various technologies related to DRMs.

I agree with Steve Jobs, DRMs are hurting the major record labels, not helping them.

    Someday they will learn.

Okay - I think you convinced my that I’m overtraining and it annoyed the hell out of me.

Actually, I am going to keep my streak going until day 40, then take a day off on Saturday. I have definately been feeling tired and irritable lately.

    Thanks for the research.

    Phil

Brad - Cooler and cooler! The Steve Jobs thing made the Radio 4 six o’clock news here in the UK, which makes it one of those ‘up there’ stories.

Phil (btw - you got added to my blogroll a couple of days ago - welcome) - DAY 40 ?!??

Usually when I’ve had some time out from serious exercise, it takes some time to get back into things, and I usually do 21 days of light running - between two and 5 miles a day - just to get back into things. Mainly this is just shock therapy to get through the I-wanna-stay-in-bed phase.

Take a day off . . . please (if nothing else, you’re making the rest of us look bad!)
