Shocking Landmines Video
I found this on elsmar.com while trawling for some information for a presentation on Value Stream Mapping that I’m giving next week.
I used to be in favour of landmines as an effective means of preventing the enemy from going where they want, and doing what they want. Weapons like the JP233 runway denial system, which showers a runway with small bombs to crater and break up the surface, plus mines to prevent repair sound great. In theory.
The problem is that these systems tend to be indiscriminate, so you don’t really know where they’re going to land. And the whole point of war . . . is peace (chapter one of Sun Tzu), so at some point, the area that’s been mined is going to have civilians walking into it. Civilians who’re unaware and unprotected.
This isn’t “collateral damage” (what a stinking, weasel-worded phrase). This is people like you, me, our children, dying or losing limbs. And it has to stop.
