Dratted Inconsistent Equinox Weather
Snow and high winds all day yesterday, and up to at least 11:30 when I went to bed did not bode well for taking the old new fixie out for its first longer jaunt today. When I got up, the snow had melted as it hit the roads, and then re-frozen, to be covered by another 1/2 inch or so of fresh powder.
Not good bike conditions at all. And definitely not the right conditions for my skinny-tyred twitchy temptress fixie. So I sold out and took the car. Actually this is a slight exaggeration - I had to take the car anyway as I wanted to take some 8ft lengths of timber back to the shop. It’s just my opinion, but I think that timber for building with is better if it’s straight rather than banana shaped. But leaving that detail out makes this more of a car Vs bike kind of post.
So anyway. . . by just after nine, the sun had been doing its thing, and the roads were pretty much clear, the weather warm, and only the barest trace of a breeze. Drat!
Still, it makes a pretty clear-cut last day of ‘official’ winter. Snow and freezing gales yesterday & last night, followed by spring sunshine and nodding daffodils today.

Yesterday I got caught in a hail storm… 15 miles from home on my bike. Ouch! and Brrrrrrr!
Certainly can be up & down temperatures at the moment, but some of the sun-sets and beautiful colours in the sky more than compensate for that!
I’d feel really bad about the weather you are having (which isn’t that much better here in Seattle), but I head to Kona, Hawaii at the end of the week. We stay right on the Hawaii Ironman course, and the temperature is 81 degrees as I write this…

Phil - as I read your reply, thoughts started rushing through my head . . . “Kona? Ironman? Isn’t that in October? Have I underestimated Mr & Mrs Sabin?”
But I’ve just checked and it IS in October, so I guess you’re off for a holiday or some work in a very civilised location. Either way, please do send a report of what your impressions of the course are - especially if you’re taking your bike!
