Swimming with the NE31 Club
So if I’m going to raise my game I’ve got to learn to swim. Like you haven’t heard that before!
Last night, I went to the NE31 Tri club’s Monday evening session at Hebburn baths. Hey, guess what? These guys can really swim. As it was my first session, I got in for free, and was “let off” the “OK, give me 60 lengths” drown-fest.
Instead, the coach, Peter, had me doing individual lengths, half with my face out of the water, so I could see what I was doing wrong, and then half face-in. Like other instructors / teachers / coaches / people who can swim that I’ve spoken to, his analysis started with the words, “Well there’s not much wrong”. I think this is a kind of letting me down gently! Stuff to work on:
- Left hand has a montary pause before entering the water
- A little deep on the stroke
- Too much sky in my eyes when I breathe
- Left arm tends to cross my body line in the stroke
- Kicking would help
- etc
Hey, this is all stuff I can fix. Next session on Thursday, when I also need to pay my membership fees, and for Tall Frend and I to take part in the Hebburn Tri this August.
