Sunday Morning Cycling
Just got back from my postponed long bike ride. I went from Whitley Bay to Durham . . . and there are some BIG hills along the way.
I took a tube of my banana & honey gel, and 750ml of funky rehydration mix as fuel (which was topped up with 750ml of water at Durham Castle). For this ride, this was enough, but barely. I could feel the bonk coming to get me for the last three miles or so.
Time now for a shower, and a hearty third breakfast!
Workout:
- Type: Cycle
- Date: 06/10/2007
- Time: 02:56:21
- Total Time: 3:00:00.00
- Average Heart rate: 130
- Distance: 49.5 miles
- Average Speed: 16.5 mph
- Average Cadence: 98
- Max Cadence: 134

The freedom to roam, to go where no man has gone before, is not always as deeply enshrined as we would like. Still there is nothing like the threat of shotgun pellets up the backside to get the heart rate, not to mention the cadence soaring. This is what happened to me the first time I attempted to ride from Durham to Whitley, I strayed, inadvertently, onto a private estate, looking suspiciously like a poacher. Lesson learnt.
I wondered where that comment was going - LOL!
Do you have the map reference so I can avoid it / go well and truly tooled up?
Map reference! That be more n my life’s worth.
Deliverance in Durham, it was 1991 so maybe it’s all changed now, I’ve never been back.
