Solo Intervals - Yuck!

I really don’t like interval training. At all.

But if there’s one thing to make me Big and Strong and Tough, then this is it. So that’s what I did for my morning run today - I jogged up to Churchill Playing fields, where there’s a 400m track, and then did 4 x 700m intervals, with a jog back to the start line between each as a recovery.

700m intervals aren’t all they could be, but on a track (which for me is soul destroying running at any time), and alone, this is the best I can do. Running in a group, mile intervals are no worse though - isn’t it amazing how a little company can lift / spur you on?

My time for the four was 2:45 / 2:45 / 2:48 / 2:52, so reasonably consistent. Maybe I should have pushed a bit harder, or done a fifth repeat just to stress things a little further . . .

Running around a track, sitting on an exercise bike, swimming in a pool are for me a poor substitute to running on the beach, cycling along the river or swimming in the ocean. For the sake of my mental well being I choose the latter rather than the former whenever I can. Still it’s not always possible. My morning run has three small hills which I kid myself are like intervals.

For sure, running with someone else makes a HUGE difference. But nobody wants to run with me. It must be people spreading rumors about me being so fast.

    :(

Besides Phil, I think you’re the only one spreading those rumors.

Yeah - I’m not scared to go running / cycling / swimming / strength training with The ZappoMan. Then again, I am a comfortable 4650 miles away . . .
