My Daughter’s a Cyclist!

I got home from today’s time on-site with the client, feeling pretty tired. I’d averaged around 18mph both ways on the journey, and not hydrated enough during the day.

That problem with Trixie the Fixie’s left pedal doesn’t seem resolved - the crank arm had worked a little loose again. While I was fixing this, adjusted the front brake, and checking the chain tension, Daughter was hovering around, asking what the various tools were, and offering to ‘help’. She was obviously in a bike kind of mood, and suddenly turned up with her helmet . . .

So while I got changed out of my I’m On A Mission To Go Fast clothes, and into something more Dad’n'Daughter Rolling Along, Wife helped her to untangle the chinstrap. And then we went for a ride - all the way to the aquarium and back, which makes two miles. This is about the furthest that Daughter’s ever ridden in a single trip . . . without stabilisers on the bike. She’s gaining in confidence, even starting to stand up and apply some grunt when climbing. Interestingly enough, her cadence seemed pretty high . . . I wonder what the effective gearing is on her bike . . .?

Pavement trundling with Daughter  messed up my average for the day’s bike mileage, but it was also the most fun I’ve had on a bike without getting sweaty for about 20 years.

All I need to do now is find the energy to go to the pool . . .

woo hoo - way to go RPK. You’ll have her timing your transition times soon if she’s not careful!

You might have to put her into a kids triathlon someday!

    Frau SmallHaussen - already done.

Lisa - Strange you should say that . . . her swimming’s getting better every week, and so I was wondering . . . am I turning into pushy-competitive-dad?!

The Elma Easter Triathlon I did last year and this year, had a great “kids triathlon” with it… this year only 2 participants, a 4 year old Girl and a 10 year old boy. As the girl ran across the finish line, everyone cheered for her… you should have seen the look of pride on her face!
