I’ve just heard a trail for a programme on BBC Radio 4 tonight - “Am I Normal”. It asks the question,
“How much exercise do you need to be fit, not fit for the Olympics, or even a fun run, but simply fit for life?”
If you’re reading this because you are [getting] fit enough for the […]

I’ve updated my cycing progress chart (click to enlarge) for the year - 1794 miles now, which means I only need do 54 miles a week to hit my target!
My plan is to continue the higher mileage in the summer, to get that number down to only needing 30 miles a week. That way I’ll […]

So the plan today was to get up early and put in a 50 mile ride before the rest of the family were even up and about. Funny how things have a habit of not working out as intended - Daughter was ill last night, and we spent the night rather sleeplessly looking after her. […]

No, I’m not taking up Lloyd Scott’s training methods - these are a little too extreme for me!
I’d intended to get up early, and get 50 bike miles under my belt before the rest of the family were up & at ‘em. But a combination of a late night, and the fact that it was […]

Yesterday was Daughter’s last swimming lesson before the summer break. While she was doing her stuff, I tried to get in some laps in the laned off part of the pool. It was pretty hard going - TWO people running in the water, and three others doing variations on the slow and steady breast stroke.
I […]

Yesterday afternoon, we had to take our Huge Dalmatian to the vet - he’s been having trouble with his ears, and the off the shelf ear drops / cleaning stuff just wasn’t making things any better.
The vet’s in Tynemouth - about a two mile walk along the sea front each way. So I walked with […]

Treadmills. Bah!
I don’t like ‘em, don’t enjoy the boredom, and don’t do it unless I have to. Send me outdoors, and I’ll run no-matter what the weather for an hour or so. Indoors, more than ten minutes is torture.
Today was better - I’d brought some headphones, and plugged into the gym’s sound system. So I […]

It’s a beautiful day today . . . so I did an indoor brick at the gym. No, not just to be perverse, but because I have stuff to do today AND yesterday was kinda hard work. So I knew that getting out of bed without a real deadline would be hard.
The answer to this […]

It’s the school holidays, and that means that kids don’t have to be in bed too early. So as well as the gnarly triathletes at the swim session tonight, there were also some younger faces . . . in the Learner’s Lane that I’m still in.
I was pretty worried that they’d be showing me up, […]
