TV Programme for Next Week . . .
People who steal bikes are prize @£$€-holes.
I’ve only ever had one taken, and given the [wholly inappropriate level of] attachment I end up feeling for my rides, it was something that really hurt. Worse still was the fact that it was my dad’s bike, so I had to tell him that I’d got his bike pinched. It’s funny how it was somehow my fault in my head, isn’t it?
Anyway, I’ve just rediscovered quickreleast.tv, which is a video content-oriented blog / vlog thing run by Newcastle resident, Carlton Reid.
He’s got a series of trailers showing at the moment for a TV programme that’ll be shown next Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm on ITV1 (/Sky channel 993). “Gone In 60 Seconds” (snappy title - wonder if it’s ever been used before for this sort of thing?) is a half hour documentary about bicycle theft in London. Here’s one of the trailers, and you can find the rest by popping over to quickrelease.tv’s post on the show:

Nasty! Our son’s bike was jacked last summer. He had a nice little trek mountain/road bike. He and his buddy went to get a bubble tea and left it outside. It was gone in a matter of minutes.
We reported it to the police and gave them the serial number, but it never turned up. Apparently, there was some kid in North Seattle that was going around stealing bikes. Kinda sucks!
Yeah, my bike’s front tire was stolen a month or so ago. It was such a bummer. People are mean! Anyway, I found this picture when I went through it. You might find it interesting http://www.flickr.com/photos/knautia/74185492/
I had my feelings hurt really bad. It could have been worse though. Anyway, have a good weekend
Lisa - yeah, the police are generally pretty apathetic about bike theft (unless they’ve got the wrong guy). Which is odd - in the UK last year there were 113,000 reported bike thefts last year. At a conservative average price of, say, £300, that’s a £34,000,000 crime wave!
Mel - they stole your front TYRE?! Not the whole wheel, just the tyre? It totally beggars belief how low some people will go. On the up side . . . that’s a great picture you’ve found. Trixie’s asked me if she can have it tattooed on her frame. Or maybe I imagined that last bit. Anyway, it’s still a great photo - thank you!
BTW, “Gone in Sixty Seconds” was the name of a movie about car thieves… I think it takes less than 60 seconds to steal a bike… No need to hot wire it.
