Walking - Does That Count?

Yesterday afternoon, we had to take our Huge Dalmatian to the vet - he’s been having trouble with his ears, and the off the shelf ear drops / cleaning stuff just wasn’t making things any better.

The vet’s in Tynemouth - about a two mile walk along the sea front each way. So I walked with Huge Dalmatian, while Daughter rode her bike - off to the horizon, and then back to us . . . off to the horizon and then back to us . . . off to the horizon and then back to us. I think that by the time we got home she must have covered at least six miles.

Of course, we could have got the metro home from Tynemouth, but I figured that we could spend the money better on a pit stop on the way back. Oddly enough, Daughter agrees that the ice cream was a much better way to spend the money!

    Walking counts. Definitely.

You’ll find as you go longer and longer and fatigue accumulates over weeks of large volume that you’ll end up walking on some of your long runs. Matter of fact, you’ll end up walking during your long races.

And during some races, you’ll finish faster by walking some than if you had run the entire way.

    So count that walking.

Mmmm - who agreed that ice cream was better than the metro - methinks it was the other way round.
