Stuart Staples’ Race Preparation
If you’ve not read “Not Normal Behaviour” by Stuart Staples, do get hold of a copy. It’s a great book, telling the story of Stuart’s journey from observing DIY to Ironman.
Anyway, he seems to have had an odd habit of going out drinking very close to races. I don’t think this is big, or clever, or hard, and don’t condone it . . . . but . . .
. . . . my friend The Irishman’s been home alone for the week, while his wife’s been away to the Old Country to show off their new son. Which was a perfect opportunity for us to go out and sink a few pints of Guinness last night. Oh, and eat curry. And not get to bed ’till rather too late.
Not that I was drunk. But I had drunk more than I’d perhaps intended. And eaten food that’s currently gurgling and burbling in my belly.
However, I did get up at a vaguely sensible hour this morning, and don’t feel like there’s a brass band tuning up inside my head, so all’s not lost.
I also got to our local scuba shop this morning to see if they sold straps for my Aquasphere Seal XP’s. No they don’t , and they don’t have any straps like that one. But it turns out that they are Aquasphere dealers. So I picked up a new pair of XPs - and once I sort out a new strap, that means I’ll have a spare for such emergencies in the future.
