I Need A [New] Shoulder to Cry On
Our friends from over the road are back from their holidays, so Shana’s back on the programme. That meant an 05:45 start for me to get up & fed before she arrived at 06:30 for our run/walk session.
After yesterday’s cycling on Wilf, my shoulder was really quite sore. Not the “I can hardly see straight with the pain” soreness that I had last week, but not at all good. It seems that the folks at Swiss Physio might have known what they’re talking about, when they said that cycling might be the root of the problem. What’s interesting is that I only did 18 miles yesterday and this seemed to bring on the problem big time. But the 30 miles I did on Christine on Sunday were just fine - no pain at all on Monday morning.
So there’s obviously something about riding with the straight & wide handlebars on Wilf that just isn’t agreeing with me at the moment. Hopefully I can get it fixed without having to get a whole new shoulder!
Anyway, the 2000yd run with Shana was good - she’d not dropped back much for having had two weeks living it up on holiday.
We got back home, and it was great running weather (overcast, some light drizzle, but only a little wind). So I decided to go around my 3.6 mile loop into Tynemouth and back. And having now done a warm-up, I felt that I should try to push a bit harder right from the very beginning.
So I did the first mile (into the wind) in 06:54, but didn’t look at my watch again until I was a mile from home (~17:30), finishing by 23:27. That’s 5:57 for the last mile, which can’t possibly be true. I need to upgrade my watch to one that’ll do proper lap splits, so I can record all the times as I pass my mile markers.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure about the 3.6 miles and the 23:27, which makes my average for this loop of a 6:31 pace. If I want to get my 10k under 40 minutes, this needs to come down to 6:24 . . . not a million miles away from where I am now!
And the good news was that by the end of the run, my shoulder felt pretty much pain free - so I can obviously keep on running even if I may need to back off the bike miles for a few weeks.

what about the resting while your body heals?
Careful it doesn’t affect your next tri - and your ability to beat our tall friend.
Von Smallhaussen - aka the one armed bandito…
Next race against Tall Friend is in almost four weeks time . . . ages away, in fact.
Of more pressing concern is the Hartlepool Tri on 26th . . . yikes!
Mmm - i kinda think thats my point…..sorry watched greys anatomy on Sunday - an athlete had taken an aspirin before his race and then he had severe kidney and liver failure - i know its only TV but…..
