Outrunning the Black Dog

No time for moping around feeling sorry for myself - I’ve got that 10k in 40 minutes goal to knock off this year.

With time pretty short this morning, I opted for a short run - just into Tynemouth and back, along the sea front. There was a southerly breeze & some light drizzle on the way out, which meant some assistance on the way back. I did the first mile in 6:50, and the last in 6:35, so I guess the middle section must have been even quicker to end up with an average of 6:24/mile.

6:24/mile?! Hang on a minute - that number looks familiar. It’s my target pace to hit the 10k in 40 minutes! Woo Wooo Woooo!

So all I need to do now is keep up that pace for another 2.6 miles, and I’ll have that goal in the bag. When I put it like that, it sounds so simple, doesn’t it?

Workout:

  • Type: Run

  • Total Time: 00:22:43.00
  • Distance: 3.55 miles
  • Average Pace: 6:23.8/mile

    Easy as pie.

Throw in some adrenaline on race day, a concerted effort to not blow it all in the first 5K and you’re in like Flynn!

I agree with Bill. You can do it, just don’t go out to fast! A little adrenaline goes a long way.
