Race Diary 2008

2008? Already?

Yep. My goals for next year represent quite a serious shift up the ladder, so I’m going to have to do some real training. Getting enough sleep, having an actual plan, and periodisation. Stuff like that.

At the moment, I’m looking at three triathlons - Stratford Sprint (400m swim, 23k bike, 5k run) as an early season intro in the first week of May; Shropshire Olympic (1500m, 40k, 10k) on 8th June; and Cleveland Steelman (1/2 Ironman distances - 1900m, 56 miles, 1/2 marathon) on 5th July.

Oh, and another Olympic distance one in August. And the Great North Run in September. And the North Tyneside 10K on Easter Sunday.

Sounds like a pretty full schedule, now that I write it down.

My question is . . . . should I have a bigger gap between my first Olympic and the 1/2 Ironman?

    Karl,

The time between Oly and 1/2 is just fine.

I agree with Bill… if you’re on track to be ready for your 1/2 Ironman then the Olympic a month earlier would be a perfect train-through event.
