Viva Las Vegas!

. . . but not for me this year :-(

I looked into finding a corporate sponsor to fund it . . . but everyone I know is obviously a lot more shrewd than they look. So I took a scalpel to the budget, and worked out how I could optimise the use of my extensive Airmiles balance.

But when it came down to it, I live in a remote corner of the UK, so to get to Nevada and run a half marathon was still going to cost me at least £500 ($1000), and six days.

I really couldn’t justify the money, which would have made the race around £5 per minute (there are ways to earn that kind of money . . . but I’m not going back to that), and leaving Wife & Daughter for a week while I go gallivanting in a far off country seemed more than a little self-indulgent.

So good luck to all of you in the Sweat365 team - especially those of you who’re using the event as part of your journey to Boston (now guaranteed). . . those for whom this is their first 1/2 marathon . . . those who’re running with their family . . . and those who’re walking in a race against a man from the Planet Zappo.

Sorry to hear you won’t be coming. You will be missed.

I am going to go to Boston in April to support Lisa. How are your marathon times…

    We’ll miss you in Vegas.

Maybe Sweat365 will have to make a journey to the UK sometime?

Boston . . . hmmm . . .well, my marathon times are as-yet untested, so my chances of qualifying would be pretty slender. Unless, that is, I can change my DoB by about 20 years, and maybe change gender while I’m at it!

There’s an open invitation for Team Sweat365 to visit the UK, which is so much more than just That London. The Great North Run’s in September, and is the world’s biggest 1/2 marathon (though that means you can also forget posting a PR on this race!).

    Sorry to hear that, Karl.

Yeah, it’s a bit of a downer . . . but I can use those 6 days for something even better - taking Daughter skiing in February. There’ll be other half marathons, but she’s only going to be a child once, and I’m going to take every opportunity to make the most of that :-D

And that’s what it’s all about.

    I applaud your priorities, Karl!
