Triathlon Training Planner

It’s that time of year again, when planning the next season takes hold. Actually, last month might have been that time of year, but better late than never.

This year, I’m trying to stick to the Good Advice in Joe Friel’s Triathlete’s Training Bible (which is also available in the USA!).

And to that end, I’ve put together a little spreadsheet to help me plan my triathlon training for the year. I just enter my annual training hours target, and put my “A” races into the relevant week of the year, and . . . . Hey Presto! it puts together a full, periodized training schedule for me. Just like magic.

All I then need to do is to plan each week, so that I spend my planned hours wisely.

I’d like to get your feedback on this Triathlon Training Planner, so please feel free to download it, tinker around, play with it, modify, add to it, whatever . . . and let me know how you get on.

Very nice planner. You are clearly an exel-wizard. What’s your goal for the Half-Iron?
I really like Joe Friel’s books (he reminds me of Jack Daniels). I haven’t found any other author that writes almost exclusively sensible things, grounded in science, and gives self-coached athletes the ability to create a there own training program. I’m discouraged by the books that simply provide a plan for a particular distance, and don’t quite explain why and how it works, or why it includes certain things at certain times. In fact, fiddling around and planning out my training is one of my favorite parts of the sport.

    I’ve got three goals. I’m aiming for #1, if I don’t ght that, there’s #2 . . . and then there’s #3:
    1. Finish in the top half
    2. OK, finish outside the bottom quarter.
    3. Just finish!
