Spray-on Plasters
So after going for a slide across the tarmac yesterday, I had a distinctly average night’s sleep. My grazes aren’t too deep, and aren’t weeping / oozing / bleeding. But they’re sore enough to interrupt the Sandman. I hadn’t applied any dressings because I think it’s better to let these kinds of grazes just dry out.
I got up at 5:30, and started to get ready for the morning’s run, wondering if I should cycle into town today. Pretty soon it was clear that the cut on my hip really wasn’t enjoying having the track tights over the top of it though. It was time to apply the band-aid.
I got the great TCP spray-on plaster in a can last year, which is just perfect for this kind of minor injury. The trouble is that it’s basically latex dissolved in nail polish remover, mixed with a propellant. The lady in the shop told me that it stings a little when you spray it on. Now there’s an understatement!
I guess that’s another lesson I’ve learned from riding a bike - don’t fall off, ‘cos it really hurts when you spray nail polish remover onto your open wounds.
Workout:
- Type: Run
- Date: 02/05/2008
- Total Time: 00:27:00.00
- Distance: 3 miles
- Average Pace: 8:59.73/mile

oooh - OUCH!
Oooh. That sounds awful.
I don’t ride much on the road, so my wounds are usually a little deeper and pretty impressive with the blood flow. They scar pretty impressively, but in my opinion don’t hurt nearly as bad as the grazing, scraping wounds. Those things STING.
And either way, thanks for the lesson learned … I’ll try to avoid applying nail polish remover to my scrapes!
Thanks SLR - I think they’re a bit like paper cuts - superficial as hell and just as painful! Do try to keep yourself away from deep penetration wounds - blood can make a terrible mess of a good paint job on a bike!
