Oops. I’ve done it now.

I forgot this morning that Shana’s hiding from me in Turkey. By the time I realised, the sun was up, and I was carrying fluids for two for a long-ish run.

I couldn’t let that go to waste though, so I headed out to push the distance a bit, and ended up doing a 10 mile run with walk breaks every mile or so to drink. Not too fast, and everything went just fine, apart from some tummy problems about half way round. Thankfully the supermarket I was passing had just opened, so I could use their facilities, and didn’t have to copy Liz Fedofsky’s recent hilarious exploits with poison oak leaves in the place of tissue paper.

After the run though, I realised that my running shoes have had it though, and so I got replacements today from Start Fitness in Newcastle - yet another pair of Asics Cumulus. I figure if they’ve got a shape that fits, why bother trying on anything else?

And then just before I wrote this post, I did something else. Those new running shoes now definitely have some work to put in over the next eleven weeks now.

Glad to see you signed up for a race… Me, I’ve been pretty much stuck in neutral… I missed the Elma sprint tri this weekend where I should have been defending my title… I could use the excuse of needing to take the kids to my Parents so they could go see a play with Grandma/Grandpa… but the truth is that if I’d wanted to race I could have made the timing work out…

Yeah, I know the feeling. This year has seemed so busy, but there it is still, that goal thingie. So I just had to do it now, before it was too late to push my training into / up a gear.

The enormity of what I’ve signed up for is just starting to sink in though. I mean, I know I can swim 1.9km, ride 56 miles, and run a half marathon . . . but one after another? Lots of endurance work to do over the next 10 weeks!

Yep. And for the heavy part of my last build period before the race, I’m going to be on holiday at the In-Law’s place in France. I see my wetsuit getting Mediterranean water on it, long rides through the Languedoc, and running in weather that’s a whole lot warmer than it is here right now. Doesn’t sound too bad when I put it like that ;-)

Not totally crazy - it’s “only” half ironman distance . . . . Wife is now taking my training seriously, checking up on how much sleep I’m getting, what fuel goes in, when it goes in, etc.
