Hill Repeats

It just doesn’t get any easier, does it? I did a set of hill repeats at Tynemouth Priory again today. Actually, it does get easier, as this time,

  • It wasn’t blowing an absolute gale in my face as I ran up the hill
  • There was no rain
  • No sleet
  • And no snow either

Hill repeats. Such fun. Probably. All of which combined to make for an almost pleasant session - relatively speaking, you understand. Actually, I was quite pleased with my performance - I’ve got a new watch that records split times (a Timex W-152-EU “Ironman Triathlon Sleek 150 Lap“, if you’re interested), so I was actually able to see how I’d done once I’d got home:

On the run back from Tynemouth, I chased down a fresher pair of legs, catching another runner up about 400 yards from home. He still had quite a way to go, so I slowed down & chatted for that last bit - no point gloating too much! He was wearing shorts, which I had to comment on (another freezing morning here). Turns out that he’s staying with his sister in Whitley Bay, but lives in Australia. He hadn’t brought any long trousers for running, assuming that it would be spring here.

I had to reply that, “Well, it is. Kind of.” :-D

I love catching a ride on a fresh pair of legs at the end of a long run…. it always make that last half mile easier.

Yep. And of course, the slowing down to chat was also just a form of gloating - “I’ve pulled you in by 200 yds in the last mile, and I’ve still got enough breath to talk. Howdya like that?!” ;-)
