So long, Humph

Humphrey LyttletonJazz legend & bewildered quiz master, Humphrey Lyttelton died last night. As well as being a trumpeter that even Louis Armstrong looked up to (no, really), the 86 year-old was the accidental anchor-man for Radio 4’s long-running quiz, I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.

This has been one of my favourite shows for years. The BBC will be broadcasting a classic edition tomorrow at midday (GMT+1 - you can listen via the BBC’s Radio4 site, anytime for the next 7 days after broadcast), which hopefully will include a round of the game, Mornington Crescent. This traditional English game is played by millions in this country on St George’s Day, but the I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue weekly contests were in a completely different league.
