Crumby Swim Time Trial

I’ve just got back from a really disappointing pool session. And I’m not at all happy. Not happy at all. Grrrrrr!

It’s the last Monday of the month, so that means a 400m time trial at the NE31’s swim session. After last Friday’s performance in the pool (2:30 / 100m pace over 1,000m), which was taking things really easy, I had high hopes of breaking the eight-minute barrier tonight. But I’ve no idea what happened. The first two 50’s felt good, and were on target for hitting 8:05 for the 400. Then it all fell to pieces for about 150m, and I got lapped by the other two guys in the lane (one of whom swims at the same pace as me). I had a good 100m after that - drafting on the other two swimmers, and then a horrible final 50.

My stroke count was all over the place, my legs felt tired, and I was swimming like a Muppet (no, not Kermit).

Nothing more to say. I’m going to bed now.

Workout:

  • Type: Swim
  • Date: 04/28/2008
  • Time: 23:19:35
  • Total Time: 00:30:00.00
  • Distance: 800 m
  • Average Pace: 3:45.95/100m
  • 400m swim time: 9:10
  • Muppet factor: High
  • Out to over-turn this next time? You better believe it!

That is still a good swim, it was only practice. I know from swimming, biking, running that your body only gives its full “all” in a race.

Yeah, I know. After a night’s sleep, I’m reminded of the lines from “If”:

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;

I just need to get over this, move on, come back & kick it’s butt next time, etc!

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Be careful not to put too much pressure on now that you’ve signed up for your first half ironman.

And look on the bright side, when you swim faster they put you in the faster lane and you don’t like that either. :-)
