Ride to the Hebburn Triathlon

Today was the Hebburn Triathlon! Fat Robbie came up for the race, and as I’d managed to get us Early o’clock starts again, we had to get up at the crack of dawn. Yawn.

Seeing as I’ve got this niggling plantar frasciitis injury, I decided to take the race nice and easy - more of an end of season fun swim-bike-run than anything serious. Yeah, right.

We cycled to the race and back, going via the Tyne foot tunnel, and setting off at 6 a.m, which is definitely my favourite time of day for cycling. No traffic, and just perfect weather for ambling along and chatting. Fat Robbie was riding his new Trek (rather swish, as it happens), and I’d opted for Trixie The Fixie. Well, if I was going to treat it as a fun event, I figured I might as well ride the bike that makes me grin like The Joker every time I ride it . . .

You can read about the race in these posts:

Workout:

  • Total Time: 1:00:00.00

  • That’s 7 miles each way

Sure looked like a fun race, Karl. Good to see that you’re having fun while doing it.

And that plantar fasciitis is a pain in the foot, eh?

It’s always best to get excuses in at the start so here goes:
    - My taper before the race had comprised a weeklong experiment in sleep deprivation and alcohol dependency (otherwise known as camping with a toddler)
    - Persuading Karl’s lane marshall to ‘miscount’ his swim distance took valuable seconds
    - Going for coffee and a cake during transition was ill-advised

This is always a great race with a good atmosphere and this year was no exception.
Next year - rhino costumes. But for now, concentrate on getting your foot better.

Fatness is a state of mind….
