German Bicycle Promotion Video

I came across this on Copenhagenize, and just had to show it here, ‘cos it reminded me of a gag told by my favourite comedian, Billy Connolly (who just happens to be a bit of a cyclist too). You can see the video after the joke, because by then, you’ll have guessed what the film’s punchline will be, so if you’re offended, you’ve only yourself to blame for pressing ‘play’ in the first place.

Anyway, the joke was aired in the mid ’70s on a popular UK chat show, hosted by Michael Parkinson. It was a prime time show, and Required Viewing. Apparently, Billy’s manager had begged him in the taxi on the way to the TV studio NOT to tell the gag, as he was sure it would end his carreer. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Here’s the joke:

A man walks into a pub to see his friend sitting there looking a wee bit down. He goes over, sits next to him and says, “Hey mate are you ok?”

The other looks over and says, “Aye, although my wife died this morning”

He is very shocked at this and says, “Thats not a nice thing to say. Don’t be pulling my leg, if you’re joking I’ll not talk to you tonight”

Well the other looks at him sharply and says, “Alright, we’ll go to mine and I’ll show ya. She’s buried in the garden”

They both get there and sure enough there is a mound of dirt in the garden but the only problem is that he hasn’t buried her arse. Upon seeing the first man says, “Whats the point of that?”

The second guy looks up, smiles and says, “well I need somewhere to park my bike!”

Here’s the video:

The punchline’s translation is, “A wheel (german slang for bike) for every arse”

Too funny… you just can’t get away with humor like that in the US… we’re all way too uptight!
