I’ve been BUSY these last couple of weeks. Really busy. Put it this way, work is starting to interfere with my fitness. And that just can’t be good!
So I’ve had to grab it while I can . . . like on Saturday:
In the morning, I had a meeting up at Starbucks / Borders at Silverlink with a prospective client. It’s so close to home that there’s just no way I could drive it, so I had to ride. Wilf (sturdy commuting bike) had picked up a flat on Friday, so I rode Trixie The Fixie. A little more challenging than usual owing to the gale force wind howling down towards the coast. It was so bad, that while the bike was chained up, it was actually being lifted off the ground by the wind.
Two things about Silverlink:
- I don’t think there are ANY formal bike racks, so everyone just uses the few steel benches to chain up to. With more poeple cycling now, there are far fewer spaces. This is a good thing, if a little annoying.
- The speed limit in the car park is 10mph, which you’d think would make it pretty safe. No - not when there are schmucks who think it’s OK to use the phone while they drive. As a result of one such t**t, I had one of those slow motion events. He woke up in time to stop, and then acted like he was the innocent party. Grrrr!
Anyway . . . the ride back was like flying, with the wind behind me. Wheeeeee!
Then on Saturday afternoon, I took Daughter to & from her drama class in Tynemouth on our tandem. Not such a good bike in heavy wind. Great at resisting cross-gusts, but like riding while wearing a parachute when going into the wind. Still, it’s all character building, I guess.
