Have I put On Weight?
So there are a bunch of people doing amazing stuff today - Brad & Big Dave & a few others from sweat365.com are doing the Steelman Triathlon somewhere in and around Las Vegas. 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and then a full marathon.
Any race with those kinds of distances is tough, but for this one, Dave Scott, 6 time Ironman World Champion, described this race course as “Ridiculous”… as a good friend of the race organizer, he apparently discouraged him from make this course this hard.
Then on a similar scale Carlton Reid’s son, Josh, will be 11 tomorrow. And before he stops being 10, he wants to ride a century, so that’s what they’re doing today. Yep, that’s right - a ten year-old riding a hundred miles.
What the Silverman has in common with Josh’s ride (apart from the distance being huge) is the fact that both in Nevada and Northumbria, it’s damned windy today.
I feel that I should be doing something to support such heroic efforts. So naturally, I’m going to be doing my cheerleader routine.
The trouble is that I seem to have put on weight, and that outfit just isn’t as comfortable as it was before. Maybe it’s the last few months of enforced rest from running, and the time it took to adjust my diet to compensate for the lower calorific needs. Or maybe it’s all that swimming for the first half of the year that’s built my shoulders up, making me into a real man. Big and strong and tough. Grrrrr!
Whatever.
The point it, that I’ dressed the part, have the pom-poms, and can kick higher than my ear, chant encouragement with the best of them, and keep a smile on my perfectly glossed lips while I do it.
So I hope you’ll join me in giving the folks in Nevada, and one boy and his dad in Northumbria every bit of encouragement you can muster.
Who’s our man?
Zappoman!
Go, Brad, Go!
There he goes, Oh my gosh!
Go, Josh, Go!
I don’t think I’ll be giving up the day job any time soon . . .

Thanks for the encouragement.
No thanks for the image of you with pom-poms. Or is the person in the cheerleader costume the *other Karl McCracken’: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/8/410/988
