More on Segregation
I found this video on YouTube about the debate in New York. It’s three years old, so if you’ve visited / live there, I’d love to hear if there have been any changes:
As far as segregtion & integration goes, I’ve still not yet made up my mind. I look at what has been achieved in cities & countries who’ve grabbed segregation with both hands (massively larger numbers of people riding bikes), and want some of that here.
Then I look at the half-baked bike facilities we tend to get saddled with, the “I pay my road tax, you have no right to be on the road when there’s that [disastrously inadequate, partial, and not-linked-to-anywhere] bike lane over there to use” of a certain type of British motorist, and the fact that we already have a network that links everywhere - they’re called roads (we just need to get the cars off them!)
Figuring out how to Do The Right Thing here could do your head in.
