Perfect For a Chap’s Bike

Von SmallHaussen and I are already starting to plan for this year’s Dunwich Dynamo. It’s a 120 mile overnight ride from Darkest Hackney in London to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast.

This year’s is on the evening of the 4th July, and we’ll be doing it in style on Daisy, accompanied by Algernond, Doktor Seth, and hopefully Tall Friend too. Transporting a tandem is what I’m trying to figure out, as well as trying to get a new back wheel for her (Daisy, not Von S.). I’m tempted to get one with a 5-speed Sturmey Archer hub gear and brake, just like’s fitted to Siegfried. That would then enable me to make a completely enclosed chaincase for Daisy . . .

Of course, if I’m going to be modifying her, then I might as well go the whole nine yards, and fit something like this, which was seen at this year’s North American Hand Built Bike Show:

Yes, that’s right. A custom front rack designed to take two bottles of wine. Perfect fuel for cycling. There’s even a little polished table top thing for standing the glasses on, though I guess this is only for when you’re stationary. I wonder where you store the corkscew though?

    Excellent :)

There’s a guy on the singletrackworld forum with a stem-mounted cheeseboard.

Hey, it’s not that dark in Hackney - some of it is quite lovely.

Will those bottles be on the back wheel nearer to me? Perfect :) We could always replace wine with a bottle of gin and a bottle of tonic then we wouldn’t need corkscrew storage - just limes and ice.

I don’t know - maybe I could do with a new back wheel too.
