Roadside Find

On a bike you move at a more human scale of speed. Peak human speed on-foot is around 26mph, though if you can manage to hit that inside of 100m, the chances are you’re a world record holder.

But on a bike, you can easily amble along at 13mph, without even breaking a sweat, and having loads of time to admire the scenery which in a car would just blur past without notice. Sometimes that scenery gets a little strange though:

This isn’t the strangest thing that I’ve ever found . . . but not far off it.

What wierd stuff have you ridden past on your bike?

this brought me up short the first time I saw it (it’s right in the middle of nowhere)

    That’s my Pashley!

After a double-take, I realize that mine is the 24.5″ frame with the double tube. But still, I’m not used to seeing photos of Pashleys, so it gives me an unexpected jolt of recognition.

Strangest item? I once found a $20 bill. There was Her Majesty, looking up at me from under a hunk of road debris.

Out here, I’m often stopping and moving turtles off the highway. I hate seeing them as speed bumps.

But one time, I decided to pass. It was a snapping turtle.

    He was on his own.
