Walking To The North Pole
Michael is aiming to raise £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. This is a charity that improves the lives of people affected by cancer, by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care.
This has featured quite extensively on local news here:
Cancer affects us all - Michael is walking to the North Pole to raise the money in gratitude for the help & support his father received prior to his death last year. My own grandfather died from stomach cancer in 2002, and like Michael’s dad was supported through the end of his painful illness by Macmillan. He was a shadow of his former self when he died, but with their help, he did so with dignity.
There are many charities working to cure cancer, and to make it a thing of the past. But the unfortunate truth is that we all have to die from something. Macmillan is there to help and support victims and their families, running hospices and providing help at home for those terminal cases, and it is a service for which I am grateful.
You can read Michael’s blog about his True North Polar Expedition for Macmillan Cancer Support here, or better still, I urge you to make a donation via the True North for Macmillan Cancer Support’s JustGiving.Com page here.
