Integrated U-Lock?

This is pretty cool.

A U-lock integrated into the bike design. It enables you to lock the bike to something, or for those just-nipping-into-the-shop moments, to render it un-ridable, by locking the steering.

It reminds me a little of those rear-wheel locks you see on classic bikes (my Pashley, or instance), with a huge score for convenience.

I guess there’s also the added advantage that any attempt to break it is likely to damage the bike frame too, so there’d be no point . . .

Makes me think of the “club” for cars!

We have one of those on the Bakfiets- which has the added advantage that it’s so heavy you can’t just carry it off.

Mind you, it’s resale value in Sttutgart is probably pretty low. Bike thieves won’t know what it is.

I use the AXA Defender ring locks with the optional chain, it immobilizes the bike, and the chain keeps them from carrying or dragging it off. Probably not quite as secure as a U-lock, but has the advantage of always having the key with it when unlocked. More than once I have ridden a bike to somewhere it needed to be locked up, only to find that I had the lock but no key.
