Get More People Cycling

This is something that’s definitely close to my heart - as someone who was on the slide towards middle-aged spread, but is now very much reformed, I’m a bit like the people you know who’ve given up smoking. There’s none so zealous in the anti-smoking brigade as the reformed smokers!

Anyway, take a look at this video from GetMorePeopleCycling.com - something in this that you could try?

I thought the lady in the middle of the clip saying, "It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be" was somewhat lacking in enthusiasm. But then I loved the bits at the end -

"… I loved it when I got back on my bike. I felt like I was seven years old again"

"… get people on a bike for just ten minutes, and get them to realise how easy and how fun cycling can be"

Now we’re talking!

I hear they have had loads of success with their “behavioural change” one:

Apparently something like 75% to 85% of people that didn’t use to cycle into work now cycle into work. All pretty impressive really, even if those figures are probably somehow exaggerated.

Bristol has apparently been doing very well too and loads of people have started cycling there

Have just passed this link on to the council here, hopefully they’ll take it up as part of their smarter choices project…

What a weird video. It apparently purports to be in the UK, but most of the shots of multiple people cycling are from the Netherlands. I recognize the road signs - particularly the big yellow cyclist redirection signs (there are obviously road works going on near where they made the video).
