No, I’m assuming that you’ve got yourself off the quayside and on the ferry to France (or for that matter Quebec) and that you now want to hire a bike.

But zut alors ! You don’t speak French.

Fear not - the BBC has this really useful little lesson in how to hire a bike in places where they speak French . Alternativley, if this still looks a bit scary, you could go to Amsterdam, where the nice friendly people in bike hire shops all seem to speak better English than most Geordies
