The Anti-Bike Lunatic Fringe …

December 8, 2009
By KarlOnSea

… of The Netherlands!

No, really.

Well, sort of - have a look at this video that came via EcoVelo and Amsterdamize :

Compare the main interviewee’s attitude to the typical person where you live:

"Perhaps you’ll need a cargo bike yourself one day"

"No! Never! No, really. No, no, no. I’ll have two children at most and they can come on the bike with me. And when they’re old enough they’ll cycle along next to me "

What?! No mention of the car being safer, so much more convenient, and with a new hybrid engine, better for the environment?

Not much of an anti-bike lunatic fringe at all, really.

The young lady who didn’t like cargo bikes was so delightful and charming that I’d forgive her for anything she said…
I really liked the answer to the question that the cargo bikes clog up the bike paths: “That’s the authorities fault for not making the bike paths wide enough”.
    Loving this!
    Life in a civilized country.
A taster of what it’s like.
