Startled by Birds

Yes indeed, driving is hazardous. In a week in which it’s been revealed that more drivers than ever are chatting away on the phone (almost as if they know their chances of getting away with it are virtually assured, because it’s plain that the police don’t give a damn), I’ve seen all sorts of mayhem going on.

Riding a bike though, things tend to happen at a slower pace, so when I found myself in the midst of a flock of birds it was just one of those things to marvel at.

Not so for one poor chap, who managed to park is rather expensive Bugatti in a lake, when according to the BBC ,

A Texas driver has driven his $1m Bugatti Veyron into a saltwater marsh, after apparently being distracted by a low-flying bird.

The driver said the pelican swooping into sight caused him to drop his mobile phone - and he swerved into the water when he reached down to pick it up

Oh, so it was the bird that caused the crash, not the fact that the eejit driver was on the phone at the time. Well, I just hope that irresponsible, reckless bird has insurance and a good lawyer, ‘cos he’s going to need one.

Sorry, I almost slipped into blaming-the-victim there, though I can’t find out if the bird was injured in the incident.

Anyway, when someone does something like this, I really want to laugh out loud at their stupidity . . . so I’ve made a little mash-up thing using the BBC’s footage of the aftermath, with an audio track of the incident itself:

===update===

And thanks to David Hembrow . . . here’s a film of the incident itself. Strange, but I see no sign of a bird in the video.

Probably a stealth bird.

    Let’s hope the police caught the bird and fined it. It’s obviously dangerous for it them to get in the way of drivers’ telephone conversations like that…

    Did you see the video of the car going into the lake ? Fabulous reactions from the car enthusiasts who caught it. I like your sound track better, though…
