Not Out Of Winter Yet

Friday is long run day. So I left work early, and managed to get home, changed and out by 4:30. Driving home, I thought the weather looked almost spring-like, and I was tempted to go out with just a couple of T-shirt layers on. I was glad I didn’t though, and instead opted for the full winter kit, including an old waterproof cycling jacket - as I turned for home from Tynemouth, I found myself in the face of a howling gale that was throwing tiny snow flakes hard in my face. At the top of a mountain, these would have been perfect powder to ski on, but at sea level, they were just painful!

The Nice Ironman’s run has aid stations every 1.7km, so all my long runs from now on, I’ll be doing run / walk on roughly these intervals. As it was, yesterday was cold and I’d had a good feed at lunch time, so I really didn’t need to take that 30-60 second walk break that often - in the end I compromised on walking every 12 minutes, taking gulps of an electrolyte-only drink at each stop.
