Underwater Running

Bah. Howling gale from the North East. Raining cats & dogs. And just above freezing.

The wind was such that the full set of waterproofs I was wearing gave up the fight within just over a mile. And after that there was another twelve miles of soaking slog. Highlights included my Sealskinz GoreTex socks deciding that they couldn’t be bothered keeping the water out any more at mile five, just before a passing car took a detour through a puddle next to me.

By the time I got home my shoes, waterproofs and all the nice lightweight synthetics I was wearing were completely water-logged, probably doubling my body weight. In fact, I might have found running easier if I’d followed Lloyd Scott’ s example and worn an antique diving suit.

Sorry we couldn’t hook up this weekend, and thanks again for your offer. Friday was really appallingly bad weather and as we drove to Durham via York I did find myself thinking “Karl’s not training in this…is he?”

I’m not sure if you have my utmost respect, or if I think you’re a complete looney. I think it’s probably a bit of both.

Well done for dragging yourself out on such an awful day.
