Ironman France Bike Simulation Route
Sundays. I’m not sure if I love ‘em or hate ‘em. These long bike rides are getting sillier, and will continue to do so over the next 10 weeks, till I hit my peak training distance of 100 miles (plus a half marathon run after, just for added spice!).
This week’s was a mere 61 miles, but I headed off through the hills of County Durham , into the wind to make it as much like the Ironman’s bike course. The first 40 miles of that are up hill, and I reckon I did about 25 miles of either climbing or battering my face against a headwind (often both) in the first half of my ride.
After 20 miles or so, I’d forgotten this (the things you can get used to!), and was really starting to worry about my pace - an average speed of just 14.2 mph seemed very slow. Once I turned for home though, things seemed a whole lot better, and I ended up averaging just under 16 mph.
So maybe there’s hope for me yet!
