Swimming Lap After Lap After Lap
Big swim today - 120 lengths of the pool. Turns out that although this is quite a long way, the time passes surprisingly quickly. And doing so many lengths, you get time to think about your stroke. Or something like that.

Hey! I just wanted to say that while I’m training for my first tri, I have been really enjoying reading about your IronMan training. It’s just nice to read about someone experiencing similar things (only on a larger scale than me). It sounds like you’re going to have a great race!
how do you keep count? just curious!
Funny that - I don’t know. If I’m swimming 400m sets, I cannot keep count to save my life. In fact, even just swimming 100m reps (i.e. 4 lengths), I can lose count. So I use the countdown timer on my watch - if it says there’s more than a minute left, I need to do another lap.
When doing these endurance sessions though, there’s less pressure and as I set off on each odd numbered length I repeat the number several times in my head. I also do mental association - “When I was NINE I . . . “; “In 1914 the First World War started”; “42 - answer to life, the universe and everything”; “43 - a prime number”; etc.
