Macmillan Cancer Support Competition
OK, so my Friday Bicycle Caption Contest is just a bit of fun. This on the other hand is completely serious.
As you may have gathered, I’m using the excuse of my impending Ironman to raise some cash for the brilliant Macmillan Cancer Support. You can make huge donations at my Justgiving page right now . . . OR you might like to read about this competition first. You could then make a donation AND possibly end up winning a super-duper prize - one that money just can’t buy . . .
Here’s a simple question for you:
How long does it take to do an Ironman triathlon? That’s 2.4 mile swim PLUS 112 mile bike PLUS 26.2 mile run.
If you think you know the answer to this question, then you might just be a winner. More specifically, if you know how long it’s going to take ME , then you really could win a prize that money can’t buy!
BUT WAIT! It gets even better - I’ve got FOUR prizes to give away, thanks to the generosity of local businesses. To be in with a chance of winning, here’s what you do . . .
- Go to my Just Giving site at http://www.justgiving.com/karlonsea , or just click on the JustGiving widget thing up there on the left of this page.
- Make a donation of at least £5 or the equivalent in your local currency (I’ll not quibble on the odd few pence due to currency rates!)
- IMPORTANT. After you’ve entered your payment details, you get to a screen where you can leave me a personal message. ENTER YOUR GUESS FOR MY FINISHING TIME HERE.
- I said there are FOUR prizes, so that’s one for the nearest guess for my time on the swim; one for the bike; one for the run; and one for the overall time. SO WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR GUESS, MAKE SURE YOU SAY WHICH DISCIPLINE IT’S FOR! e.g. "Swim: 2h:11m:21s"
OK?
- SWIM - Be a mini-zoo
keeper in the Northeast’s premier exotic pet shop! The winner will spend a morning working at Animal Tracks , which is an exotic pet shop in Ashington. The prize is aimed at children from 8+, and they’ll get to learn about the animals (from spiders, to snakes & lizards, and cute furry things & fish), how to look after them, and get to feed them. Look on this as being a mini-zoo keeper prize! This is an ideal prize that you might want to give to your son / daughter / nephew / whoever, if they live in or near the NorthEast of England . - BIKE - The Romance of Scones. You know how you can have a rose, or even a star named after your sweetheart? Well now you can do the same with a scone recipe. Nevins of Northumberland hold the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of scone varieties on their menu.
They’ll prepare a brand new new variety named after the winner (or the winner’s sweetheart!). This brand new scone will include your favourite ingredients (e.g. snickers & marmite; or fish & chips; or caviar and oysters; or anything you can think of). The winner will receive a gift pack of their very own 6 scones by post (to anywhere in the world - so don’t be shy about entering!), and a permanent place in history on a menu of this record breaker. - Run - The Best Damned Jam I Ever Tasted! House of Hannah have donated a hamper of their amazing speciality jams and chutneys. I’m currently enjoying their fabulous Orange & Whiskey Marmalade - perfect to set me up for a hard training session.
But remember - this IS a prize that money can’t buy, and House of Hannah also prepare bespoke preserves . . . so that basket could be made up of products designed just for your palate - whether you’d like to try the unusual in the form or Black Current & Licorice Jam, something as a bit of a morning pick-me-up, like Gin & Orange Marmalade, or even a spread to simultaneously satisfy your addictions to Coffee, Chocolate & Chilli. Money just can’t buy this sort of bespoke service, and if you live in the UK , this prize could be yours! - Overall Finishing Time - You Can’t Buy Love, But You Can Create Your Own All-In-One.
You could be the lucky winner of a custom-made All In One , as featured in Vogue and on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother. The All In One Company will make you one of their wonderful suits to your own custom design (there are literally billions of permutations), using any of their available fabrics, personalised just for you with embroidery and with any of their custom add-ons – mittens, feet, hoods, or even ears! This cuddle-that-you-wear is a fabulous, and totally unique prize for whoever gets closest to guessing my
final finishing time for the Ironman race.T he lovely people at The All In One Company will produce a custom all in one for the winner, to be shipped worldwide.
If you want to win any of these prizes, just follow these simple steps:

Fantastic prizes!
You’d be mad not to enter!
Karl, can you please clarify…can we only give a guess for one discipline per donation? Your rules imply this (”WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR GUESS, MAKE SURE YOU SAY WHICH DISCIPLINE IT’S FOR”) but someone has donated £5 and guessed for both the run and the bike.
Ta!
Yep - each discipline is £5 to enter.
Martin actually donated £25 (forgot to input his guesses with his initial £20), and made a second donation of £5 alongside which he’s also guessed for each of them, but not the overall total . . .
