To Morpeth

Another day, and another ride to work. This time was heading across the top end of Cramlington and over to Morpeth - roads that I don’t generally ride on during the week. Having experienced first hand how people drive along these roads, I was surprised that anyone would want to ride them at all.

But then I got to Morpeth itself at about 8:25 - just when the morning rush-hour was in full flow. Actually, flow isn’t really a very good word to describe it - it was only "flowing" in the same way that turds flow down a blocked drain. With the long hill down into Morpeth, I had the joy of riding past all this, and arriving at my client’s new bakery on it’s opening morning, feeling as fresh as a daisy & ready to hand out a congratulatory bottle of bubbly that’d been hidden in my saddle bag.

The whole experience made me feel like a somewhat thinner, less beardy Father Christmas!

I remember cycling to work with a celebratory bottle of champagne in my back pack once, going over a couple of potholes and wondering if that was really such a good idea - you certainly wouldn’t want to fall off…
