    The ideal number of bikes can easily calculated with the simple equation i = n+1

    No, silly - it’s this one that’s important:

    n = d-1

    where n = the eventual number of bikes you’ll have, and d = the number of bikes that would end in divorce. n.b. I’ve been told that where the bike in question is a motorbike, d=1.
