Abusing Your Grandmother’s Bike

This via Adam Ef on the Twitters:

It reminds me of when I was a student, and my bike was detained by the police for several weeks to “help them with their enquiries”. During this time, I still had to get into lectures, so I borrowed the 1960s shopper that our landlady had left in our shed. It had everything a boy could want from a bike:

  • Step through frame
  • Basket on the front
  • Cottered cranks and no gears
  • Rust. Lots of rust.
Needless to say, I rode it like I had something to prove, and developed the habit of burning off anyone on a bike who looked even remotely quick. Never tried any jumps though…
