Whitley Bay In Regular Clothes

Number fourteen in our series: An early spring evening and a bike with saddle springs:

As I came out onto the sea front next to Beaches & Cream in Cullercoats, I saw this lady ride past. I caught her up a hundred yards or so down the road and complemented her on her bike…

  • Sensible (I mean SENSIBLE) bike? Check! In fact it’s a Pashley Princess Sovereign - the ladies version of my bike, Siegfried
  • Handbag and Useful Things in front basket? Check!
  • Panniers fixed for extra luggage capacity? Check!
  • Sensible shoes? Check!
  • Fleece half-open in the unseasonably warm February evening? Check!
  • Rosy cheeks and a feeling of being sixteen again? Check!
  • Big smile? Check!
Say hello to Tricia, the Pashley-riding lady of Cullercoats!

    Pashley have to surely be an icon of British engineering along with Raleigh.

    Love the photo!
    This is a great blog. I was disappointed to learn that David Hembrow’s blog has followed in the way of Crap Cycling in Waltham (?) Forest, but I wouldn’t miss reading yours for quids - lots of variety and interest.
    Hope it goes on forever - keep up the good work!

    @Rob “…I wouldn’t miss reading yours for quids…”

    Please send large quantities of non-sequential, non-marked bank notes to the usual address.

    Thank you.

    Thrilled to see myself on the site. Was travelling from Whitley Bay to Tynemouth as I had been to a private tuition session (I’m a maths tutor)and my sensible panniers contained my textbooks etc. Nice to meet you Karl on such a lovely early sping evening.
    Love the site!
