More On The Headlamp Upgrade

I thought you might want a bit more information on the headlamp upgrade I built for my Pashley’s hub-dynamo driven front light. You probably don’t, as you’d have to be the same sort of geek that I am to enjoy this, but what the heck - here they are anyway:

First up, the circuit diagram for the power supply circuit:

Remember, the central part of this looked like this before it was soldered into the bike’s wiring:

The blue disc is the capacitor, and the wires sticking out left & right are for the AC in, while the top one is +5.5V and the bottom one 0V.

Daughter helped me film the whole thing in action tonight:

As you can see, at very low speeds, the bulb strobes, but above even a very slow walking speed it burns bright and steady, and when I stop, it dims a little but stays lit.

In case you hadn’t guessed, I’m quite pleased about this!

    I’m assuming that he background music was also dynamo powered, speakers in your panniers?

    Yep. I’m going to be installing a laser lightshow and smoke machine next.
