Taking a Power Tool To My Brooks Saddle

The Brooks B17 I have on one of my bikes has now done a few thousand miles, and when comparing with a new saddle on Algernond’s bike last weekend, I noticed that it was starting to spread a little.

I also looked at yet another B17 on someone else’s bike, and noticed the lacing on this one - it was the B17 Imperial, which also features a cut-out:

So I wondered about adding some lacing to my saddle. First of all, I marked it up, with a shallow score line 8mm from the edge, and hole centres on a 10mm pitch:

I drilled out the holes - eight on each side - with a 3mm bit:

and gave it a thorough rub over with Proofide, before lacing it up, paying particular attention to that score line:
