After the bike ride, I could tell that all was not well with my legs - I had some slight pain in both my vastus medialis muscles, that I’ve come to recognise from longer rides / pool session as a symptom of electrolyte problems prior to actual cramping.
After putting the bike away, a quick change […]

The training schedule had me down for a 45/10 brick this morning, so last night I was early to bed and raring to go when the alarm went off at just after six.
My ride earlier in the week had left me a little sore in the . . . um . . . undercarriage region. […]

We went round to Daughter’s best friend’s parents’ (DBFP) for supper on Saturday night. And Mr DBFP’s hospitality got the better of me. Y’see, my parents were brought up in post-war austerity Britain, and were taught to eat everything on their plates. And they passed that on to me.
The trouble is, it works with beer […]

OK - I didn’t got to do the run STRAIGHT after jumping off my bike, but about 20 minutes later, as I had to go & fetch Daughter from a birthday party first (now that’s timing!). Does it still count as a Brick? I think so, but your views would be very much appreciated.
Anyway, I […]

With the increase in my mileage on the bike recently, my backside’s been feeling the pressure. So when I read about the delights of saddle sores (be sure to check out this picture - not for the faint-hearted), I decided that prevention was almost certainly better than cure & bought a tub of chamois cream […]

After my Sunday morning ride, I did a short run to cool down. Having made damned sure that I’d had enough to drink while cycling, I’m pleased that I had no problems at all with cramp in my leg muscles.

. . . so I didn’t drink as much as I should have done on the bike.
Anyway - the Run. VonSmallhaussen’s up to stay for the weekend, so she volunteered to come with me for the run - to the lighthouse and back. Except she was going to cycle (borrowing Wife’s bike), so that she […]

I’d originally intended to do this at Early O’clock on Saturday morning. But after the previous week’s burning the candle at both ends in a pure oxygen environment experience, I opted for a lie in instead. For some reason, 08:00 now counts as a lie in, but there you go.
Anyway, the plan was to do […]

Following Brad’s advice, I went for a short run this afternoon when I got home from my ride. My legs felt pretty heavy . . . but the pace seemed pretty quick, according to the stopwatch. I did 6:28 for the first mile (WHAT?!) 4:29 (about 0.6 miles) for the middle section, and then 6:38 […]

After the mayhem of Daughter’s birthday party yesterday, I ended up drinking a little more than intended over dinner with my parents last night. So the plans for an early O’clock ride went right out the window, and I ended up not leaving the house ’till almost two O’clock. Not due to a hangover, I […]
