Over the summer, I got seriously into pancakes. I’d cook ‘em for breakfast for Daughter & me two or three times a week, and go to work / out at the weekend with a definite full-belly-warm-glow about me.
Strangely enough, everyone seems to think that pancakes are a real faff to cook in the morning [...]

You know those days where you have a deadline that cannot be missed? And unlike Douglas Adams, you can’t just admire the ‘wooshing’ sound it makes as it passes?
Yeah. Well, I had that sort of day yesterday. I had to . . .
Finish off the periscope for my rugged video camera. Periscope? What!?!! Well it’s [...]

I had a whole lot of baking to do yesterday - bread, bagels and Christmas cake. But unfortunately we were out of bread flour, and most of the ingredients needed for the cake.
The only option was to head off to the shop to stock up - I bake quite a lot of bread, and hate [...]

On the cycling instructors’ course today, we had to demonstrate our presentation skills with a short presentation (2-3 minutes) on the subject of our choice. One of the guys spoke for 150 seconds on belly button fluff. :-/ Go figure!
I decided to teach the class how to bake the best bread they’ll ever taste. But [...]

I took my camera out the other Sunday while I was taking Huge Dalmation for a walk along the promenade. I thought it would be fun to see what sort of people were out riding their bikes just half an hour after sunrise. It was no surprise to see a couple of roadies out, but [...]

My training’s reached the point where I’ve started to get those weird food cravings. This time, I WON’T be giving in to the temptation to have kippers in porridge, but it did get a little strange tonight. I didn’t have time to finish my supper before heading off to the pool, so I tucked into [...]

. . . so I didn’t drink as much as I should have done on the bike.
Anyway - the Run. VonSmallhaussen’s up to stay for the weekend, so she volunteered to come with me for the run - to the lighthouse and back. Except she was going to cycle (borrowing Wife’s bike), so that she [...]

I’d originally intended to do this at Early O’clock on Saturday morning. But after the previous week’s burning the candle at both ends in a pure oxygen environment experience, I opted for a lie in instead. For some reason, 08:00 now counts as a lie in, but there you go.
Anyway, the plan was to do [...]

OK, so the raw figures of this ride look pretty sluggish. But I was on Wilf, my Sturdy Commuting Bike, and it was windy (not blowing a hoolie, but enough to slow you down, and somehow ALWAYS in your face). As usual I’d faffed about in the office before heading off for an after-lunch meeting [...]

I found this excellent recipe for Aphid Toffee, and tried it out today:
3 table spoons of sugar
3 table spoons fresh greenfly
4oz of butter
3 desert spoons of milk
3 desert spoons of treacle
a little vinegar
Boil gently for 20 minutes until a little dropped into cold water forms a ball.
Chewy and sweet - pretty damned fine in fact. [...]
