Yesterday was pretty windy (like a steady 20mph), but generally bright and cool - ideal cycling weather. Or at least it was when I was cycling due East, with the wind to my back!
For the morning, this was not the case, as I rode into Newcastle to spend half a day with a client....

Workout:
Type: Cycle
Date: 11/04/2007
Time: 14:24:26
Total Time: 00:45:00.00
Distance: 3 miles
Average Speed: 4 mph
OK, so an average speed of 4mph on a bike is . . . well, maybe good enough to win a walking race against someone who’s running twice the distance, but on a bike, nothing to write home about.
Tonight was North Tyneside’s annual...

So this evening before her lesson, Daughter swam a complete length (25m) of the pool! More to the point, it took her three attempts, and she still went back for more ’till she’d got it done.
I’m just so proud that she did it . . . and that she tried so hard to get...

Nope, I didn’t see Audrey Hepburn or Gregory Peck sharing a scooter . . . but I was still HUGELY impressed by Rome.
In fact, the scale, quantity and quality of the stuff to look at left me completely blown away. AND pretty much everyone we met was about as welcoming as it’s possible to...

Going off line for a week, to visit Rome
We’re gonna do all the tourist things - visiting the Coliseum, the forum, Vatican, baths, etc, etc. Woo hooo!
*I actually failed my Latin ‘O’ Level exam 21 years ago. So this phrase may, or may not be a translation of “Hobbes and his family...

So after this afternoon’s cycling around Newcastle, it was time for Daughter’s Rainbow’s Swimming Gala. Lots of six year-olds racing across the small pool at Tynemouth Baths, with screaming & cheering from lots of other six year-olds.
I was really quite nervous about this - Daughter’s only just learned to swim, and is still rather...

So I’ve got my blog back from Von SmallHaussen, who’s been put back on the train to that London.
I had a great weekend - not as much cycling as I could have done (more on that later), but enough to make my total for the year to date 2,524 miles - just 476 short...

We had to go into Newcastle today to pick up some stuff for Wife. And as it was such a sunny day, she suggested that rather than the two of us going in the car . . . I could ride.
Well, I can resist almost everything except temptation, and even though I’d already been...

I found this excellent recipe for Aphid Toffee, and tried it out today:
3 table spoons of sugar
3 table spoons fresh greenfly
4oz of butter
3 desert spoons of milk
3 desert spoons of treacle
a little vinegar
Boil gently for 20 minutes until a little dropped into cold water forms a ball.
Chewy and sweet - pretty damned fine in...

No, not me.
Far worse - Daughter.
I thought we’d try going out as a threesome this evening - me running with Huge Dalmatian, and Daughter cycling. She wanted to go all the way to the end of the Tyne’s North Pier (about 4.5 miles round trip), so this looked like being a really good workout.
Trying...
