Race Report: My Bike’s Possessed!

Race Report: My Bike’s Possessed!

We’ll get to exactly why my bike’s possessed later . . . Today was the Hebburn / Tyne & Wear Fire Service Triathlon. It’s my local club’s race, and in the spirit of giving as well as taking from club membership, I kinda had to turn up early to help with getting the event set...

Thank Goodness For Friday Swims with Daughter

So yesterday, although Swimtime’s finished for the summer, Daughter and I headed off to the pool to play for an hour. Wife came along too, to see just how much progress Daughter’s making (lots). And a good job it was that we went swimming yesterday - as I was putting my goggles on, the strap...

Hawk, Baracuda AND Phil Too

It’s looking like being a busy end to this week, so before I forget, I wanted to wish these three ‘good luck’ for the weekend: Phil Sabin’s riding the Courage Classic in aid of the Rotary Endowment for the Intervention and Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. With all that training he’s been doing on...

Hebburn Triathlon: Early O’Clock Starts

Our entry confirmations for the Hebburn Triathlon arrived in the post today. This is a pool-based race, and the general form for these is that the starting order is from fastest to slowest swimmers, so that there’s no bunching-up  overtaking in the pool. I think there must have been some sort of crazy mix-up though....

Dry Wednesday Morning Run

Hey! Guess what!? It wasn’t raining on my run this morning! So for a change, I headed south along the coast, planning on the 5 mile round trip to the end of the North pier of the Tyne’s harbour. I even took my camera along, planning to record a short ‘Hello’ to y’all from...

Evening Swim - So What?

Evening Swim - So What?

So I went for a short swim this evening. Just 300m. Hardly worth a blog posting, or even a log book entry. Except this is the place where I went for the swim. The satellite image shows the tide out - high tide tonight was at 18:30, just before I got wet. So I was in...

Size matters . . .

I’ve got to have a wetsuit for the Hartlepool Marina Triathlon in August, and I figure that buying sooner rather than later will mean more time to put in some open water practice. I’ve chosen my suit (details once it arrives and gets its first outing), but before I can order it, I need...

Why Tri?

I’ve been thinking about motivation recently. When I get to the “Why” question, the answer that seems to keep coming back is, “Because it’s there”. But I know there’s more than that to it. When I did my first triathlon, my biggest fear was a not completing the race - a DNF. So I worked...

I’ve Joined a Club!

I’m not one of life’s “joiners”. There’s something about organised clubs that just turns me off. Maybe it’s the fact that I can never remember anyone’s name, or the vague feeling that I’m going to be found out as just “winging it”, but for some reason me and clubs don’t seem to go together. But...
